The Hanepoot Big Band will be performing at the Sunset Picnic Concert on Sunday February 15 at the Helderberg Nature Reserve in Somerset West.

This event is hosted by the Friends of the Helderberg Nature Reserve, a non-profit organisation promoting environmental education and conservation at the Reserve. Their Environmental Education (EE) projects introduce young learners from the Helderberg area, including Macassar and Nomzamo, to the importance of our rich environmental heritage, and especially of conserving our fauna, flora and water.

The Friends of the Helderberg Nature Reserve generate funds for this programme through this Kirstenbosch-style Sunset Concert Series in the Reserve on Sunday evenings throughout the summer.

Come hear our all-South African programme of big band jazz, including several compositions by Douglas Armstrong and Merton Barrow, and arrangements of tunes by Errol Dyers, Dudu Pukwana and Zakes Nkosi , including a brand new arrangement of another Marabi gem by legendary composer Zakes Nkosi, called "Jackpot".

Tickets for Sunday's concert are R25 for adults and R10 for scholars. The band plays from 17h30 to 18h45, and the gates close at 20:00.

A map with directions to the venue is at the bottom of this newsletter.
