Sunday January 23, Sunday Afternoon Spends, Ikwexi Community Centre, Gugulethu
This Sunday 23 January will feature the Jazz Workshop Biggish Band at the Sunday Afternoon Spends in Gugulethu. The Sunday Afternoon Spends, presented by Pro Helvetia, the Arts Council of Switzerland, is a four week series of jazz and afrobeat sessions at IKWEZI Community Centre in Gugulethu. The rest of the series features Tete Mbambisa, Afro Vibrations, and Mark Fransman's Strait and Narrow. On Sunday the JWBB will be featuring Cape Town stalwart George Werner as a guest on piano, and we'll playing a selection of our trademark repertoire of original Big Band Jazz, composed for us by Mertyn Barrow, David Ledbetter, Douglas Armstrong and Jannie 'Hanepoot' van Tonder, as well as some new arrangements of South African classics by Zakes Nkosi, Hugh Masekela, Dollar Brand, Chris McGregor, etc We'll be playing 2 sets starting 14h00 up to about 17h00. The JWBB is an amateur Big Band based in Cape Town, and lead by trombonist Jannie 'Hanepoot' van Tonder

The JWBB plays original compositions, as well as new arrangements of South African Jazz standards.
