Hanepoot & the Biggish Band are at the G-Spot, also known as Generations Cafe,  in Viking Business Park, Showground Ave, Epping (behind Grand West Casino) this Sunday October 29, starting 19h30.

This 18-piece big band led by Jannie 'Hanepoot' van Tonder on trombone will play 2 sets from its trademark collection of South African Jazz.

On this occasion there will be a unique supporting act, The Littlest Giants, a 6-piece jazz group of 10 to 14-year olds, directed by George Werner, pianist for the Biggish Band.

The G-Spot is one of Cape Town's most popular regular jazz venues. Described as 'cosy decadent', it hosts live music 5 nights a week, and has seen the likes of Ernie Smith, Tony Schilder, Alistair Isobell, Allou April, Garth Taylor & Jimmy Dludlu on stage. It is located behind Grand West Casino in Epping Industria (see the map below).

The Biggish Band plays a mix of new arrangements of South African jazz classics (tunes by Errol Dyers, Zakes Nkosi, Dollar Brand, Chris McGregor, Hugh Masekela, etc) as well as some originals composed by Merton Barrow, David Ledbetter, Douglas Armstrong, 'Hanepoot' van Tonder, etc. The music includes traditional Cape Town goema and Johannesburg marabi tunes, as well as some regular big band swing.

The gig kicks off at 19h30. Entry is R40. Contact: 084-660-6158.
